Discover St. John’s College

St. John’s College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (SJCPSR), Kattappana, is a mission-driven institution established to provide quality pharmacy education in the high-range region of Kerala. Founded under the vision of Rev. Brother Fortunatus Thanhäuser and the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, the college continues a long tradition of compassionate healthcare service and educational excellence. It represents an extension of the Order’s commitment to healing and social upliftment, particularly among underserved communities.

SJCPSR is directly connected to the legacy of St. John’s Hospital, Kattappana, established in 1968 by Brother Fortunatus as part of his lifelong mission to serve the poor and the sick in India. The college was founded to address the longstanding absence of pharmacy education in the Idukki high-range, becoming the first institution in the district to offer the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program from 2016 onwards. Further expanding its academic offerings to meet regional healthcare needs, the institution introduced the Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm) program from 2024 onwards, thereby strengthening opportunities for professional pharmacy education in the region. It is managed by the Hospitaller Brothers (Alias Medical Brothers Society), who continue to uphold the Order’s values of hospitality, compassion, and holistic care.
